Hotel Odor Removal Without Ozone

Clear smoke, pet and food odors from guest rooms while housekeeping cleans. No sealed rooms, no hours offline, no ozone.

Clear the odor. Turn the room. Skip the ozone.

A guest checks out and the room smells like smoke, pets or last night's takeout. For years the fix has been an ozone generator: seal the room, wait for hours, air it out, then send housekeeping back in. That is a room you can't clean or sell.

Airocide Mobile works differently. Roll it into the room and switch it on. Medical-grade HEPA filtration, a UV-C light chamber and activated carbon pull smoke, odors and VOCs out of the air and kill bacteria and mold along the way, with no ozone, no chemicals and no fragrance. Because it is designed for occupied spaces, your housekeeping team keeps working while it runs. Clean the room and clear the air at the same time.

The result: odor rooms back in inventory faster, without locking anyone out and without putting a lung irritant into your guest rooms.

Why hotels are replacing ozone with Airocide Mobile

Faster room turns, a safer workplace for housekeeping and odor that is removed from the air, not covered up.

No ozone

Non-ozone UV-C lamps (253.7 nm) sealed inside the unit. Nothing harmful is added to the room.

No lockout

Safe to run with people in the room, so housekeeping cleans while the air is treated.

1 hour

A full air change for a space up to 12,000 cubic feet. A typical guest room is much smaller.

Roll in

No installation. Plug it in, switch it on and move it to the next room when you're done.

The problem with ozone generators

Ozone generators have been the default odor fix in hospitality for years. The U.S. EPA's own guidance shows why they are slow, unsafe around people and not very effective at levels anyone should breathe.

01

Hours offline

To work, ozone has to run at concentrations no one should be exposed to. The room is sealed and emptied, left for hours, then aired out before staff can go back in. That's lost cleaning time and a room you can't sell.

02

Not safe to breathe

EPA warns that inhaled ozone can damage the lungs, and that relatively low amounts can cause chest pain, coughing, shortness of breath and throat irritation. It can also damage fabrics, rubber and artwork.

03

Weak at safe levels

Turn it down to a level that meets public health standards and, according to EPA, ozone is not effective at removing many odor-causing chemicals. It doesn't remove smoke particles at all, and its reactions can create irritating by-products.

More than a carbon filter

Odor is the job. Killing germs and mold is the bonus.

Many portable odor units are just a fan, a particle filter and a bed of carbon. They trap what they can, and that's it.

Airocide Mobile adds a stage they don't have: a high-intensity UV-C light chamber between the HEPA and carbon stages. As room air passes through, UV-C kills the bacteria, viruses and mold spores carried in with it. You buy it to clear odor rooms. You also get cleaner, healthier air in every room it treats.

  • HEPA captures smoke, dust and fine particles
  • UV-C kills bacteria, viruses and mold spores
  • Activated carbon adsorbs odors and VOCs

Covering it up isn't fixing it

Sprays, scent diffusers and pumped-in signature scents are the other common fix. They don't remove anything. They add a second smell on top of the first.

Another task for housekeeping

Someone has to apply it in every room, restock it and reapply it. When the fragrance fades, the original odor comes right back.

Guests react to it

In a national survey, 34.7% of U.S. adults reported health problems such as migraines and breathing difficulties from fragranced products, and more than half said they would prefer fragrance-free hotels. NBC's TODAY show recently covered guests who say signature hotel scents give them headaches and trigger asthma.

How a room turn works with Airocide Mobile

  1. Guest checks out

Housekeeping flags a smoke, pet or food odor during the room check.

  2. Roll it in, switch it on

No setup and no sealing the door. The unit starts pulling air through its HEPA, UV-C and carbon stages.

  3. Clean while it runs

Housekeeping strips beds, cleans and resets the room while the air is treated.

  4. Room back on the market

Roll the unit to the next room. No airing out, no waiting on a timer.

Where hotels use Airocide Mobile

Smoking-violation rooms

Remove smoke particles and odor from the air so the room can be resold the same day instead of sitting offline.

Pet-friendly rooms

Clear pet odors between stays so the next guest, including guests with allergies, walks into a fresh room.

Food and cooking odors

Extended-stay suites, kitchenettes and takeout leave odors behind. Run the unit during the room clean.

After renovations

New paint, carpet and furniture release VOCs. Carbon filtration helps clear that new-room smell before guests arrive.

Musty and mildew odors

After a leak or water event, treat the air for mold spores and musty odor alongside your remediation work.

Lobbies, fitness and meeting rooms

Move a unit into high-traffic shared spaces for events, peak seasons or problem areas.

Frequently asked questions about hotel odor removal

Is Airocide Mobile safe to run while staff are in the room?

Yes. It is designed for occupied spaces. It produces no ozone and uses no chemicals or fragrances, so housekeeping can work normally while it runs.

Does Airocide Mobile produce ozone?

No. Its UV-C lamps operate at 253.7 nm, a non-ozone-generating wavelength, and are sealed inside the unit's light chamber.

Does it remove odors or just cover them up?

It removes them from the air. HEPA filtration captures smoke particles, and activated carbon adsorbs odor molecules and VOCs. Nothing is sprayed or masked.

How long does an odor room take?

Airocide Mobile treats about 200 cubic feet of air per minute through its HEPA, UV-C and carbon stages, a full air change for up to 12,000 cubic feet in about an hour. A typical guest room is much smaller. Heavy smoke in carpets and fabrics also needs your normal soft-goods cleaning, and a long run or second pass for the worst rooms.

How many units does a property need?

Most properties rotate one or more units between odor rooms. We'll recommend a number based on your room count and how many odor rooms you turn each week.

Where can I buy Airocide Mobile?

Direct from Airocide Systems or through Grainger.

UV-C in HVAC, PTACs and mini-splits

Behind the walls: lower energy costs with Fighter Flex

Hotels run their HVAC around the clock, and that's where coil fouling costs the most. Bacteria and mold build a biofilm on cooling coils that restricts airflow and heat transfer, so fans and compressors work harder and coils need regular chemical cleaning.

Fighter Flex uses UV-C light to keep coils clean continuously. In ASHRAE-funded field research at Penn State (RP-1738), UV-C on a cooling coil cut long-term coil pressure drop by 14.6% and improved heat transfer by 13–16%.

Because your HVAC never stops running, a hotel is one of the best places to see the savings: lower fan energy, fewer chemical coil cleanings and cleaner air throughout the property.
